Training Hots Up In The Pool.

OK so I might not be very good at this blog writing thing but I will be doing my best to try and let you know how the training is going and give you a little bit of an insight in to how I am going about it. To read the full post. See it on our website.

Anyway on to today. I went swimming this morning as planned. The pool was actually really empty which is good because it means that there is more opportunity for me to try out things. As I already said in the previous post this was going to be my last day to just swim before I put together a program that would help me to get much fitter.

Thanks to Tee, who comes and swims at the pool with me. We discovered that on the side of the pool they had some cards which have workouts for in the pool on them. Because at this point we had both already started our workouts we were not sure if it would be right to try them out. However, neither of us could resist having a look. They were really helpful and actually looked like quite good workouts. Both Tee and I tried a card out each as there were different cards for different fitness levels it meant that as your fitness level improves you can work up the fitness cards.

BRILLIANT!!!!

So I finished off my session by doing the workout card for fitness. It was a proper workout. So when I go next week, I will be using the fitness cards again. At least this way, I will be able to tell you to what level of fitness i am working to each week.

The one thing that I did notice was that although the fitness cards didn’t give me as high a length count, it did make me ache!!!

Let’s hope my fitness starts to improve soon or Sundays are going to be painful.

In the meantime, I am going to see if I can find a way to record my lengths and training in the pool. If I find something then I will update you.

Today’s Stats –

More Training In The Morning.

So tomorrow I am back to swimming. a good thing I think. However I am a little bit worried about going because not been feeling very well over the past few days. Determined though to go and get some laps in at the pool especially as it is so cold outside.

This is going to be the last week that I just go and see how I feel as I am going. From now on I will be trying to set myself some goals so that I can be sure that I am improving on each trip to the pool. If anyone has any ideas on setting some targets then I am open to suggestions. not had to train like this before.

I am so glad that I don’t have to get out on a bike with the weather the way it is right now. Although it would be fun to get out there on a mountain bike in the snow, I am pretty sure that it would be very cold.

Off to swimming again

Ok, so it’s Sunday morning again, and it the crack of dawn I was out to get some training in at the pool before everyone got up. It was a little disappointing not to be able to achieve the same number of laps as last week. However, this may be to do with the fact that Simon pushed himself harder than he did last week. Simon also had less time on the ball this week. The good news though, is that Simon managed a faster lap. This week the lap of 50 m for breaststroke, was down to 45 seconds.

As an added extra today, Simon took the kids out for a walk around Queen Victoria country Park. Not only was this good exercise for the children who both took their bikes, but it was also an added extra for Simon. Although only 2 miles, it was still an extra bit of exercise. Particularly when he spent the time pushing Phoebe Round the park on her bike!

With any luck, Simon will be back to full strength next week and will be putting in extra laps.

The training begins

Well it had to happen. Today I started training for the long night ride in June. Went round to Mark’s gym and looked scarily at the eqipment. Started with 10 minutes on the treadmill, then another 10 minutes on the cross-trainer. I hate the cross trainer; its too much like hard work. Nevertheless I managed to cover 4.6Km!!

Mark and I then did the weights. Surprisingly we were able to up the lifting limit by another weight on some activities. Don’t ask me how much the are – Mark has rubbed off the markings!

Anyway, the plan is 10 minutes each one this week, 12 mins next week and then each week after that at 15 minutes. Its hard work in the gym and I’d rather be out on my bike, but its quite cold at the moment and its very wet. From next week, I’ll have to take each week as it comes and go on the bike when I can, even if its just for a few miles.

Don’t forget, I shall be looking for sponsors soon so there’s no hiding from me

Roger

Swim training for Simon has begun.

So today was the start of new year training For Simon today. Decided that this year to keep himself fit, that training purely on the bike was not going to be enough and so has started training in the pool. This way even when it is cold and dark, he will still be able to get in some well needed training.

Today was the start of the swimming training. Simon managed 76 lengths of the pool in about an hour and fifteen mins. Which we think is quite good. On the sprint lengths of 50 meter swims, his fastest time was time was 39 seconds for freestyle and 50 seconds for breast stroke not bad at all considering that the last time he had to swim like this was well over ten years ago.

Let’s see how this progresses through the training.
